Genre-shaping author Joe Haldeman and the 2020 Hugo finalists for Best Novel, Alix E. Harrow, Seanan McGuire, and Arkady Martine, will be joining Gadi and Karen on the show. Special guest (now revealed as Alan Lightman) will come on the show to surprise Joe, and leadership expert Stephen Kelner will come back on the show for an analysis of leadership in The Forever War.

3:00 PM: Joe Haldeman Reading and an Interview

Joe Haldeman, a multiple-Hugos winner himself, will read from his work and then join us for an interview about his life in science fiction, writing, fandom, society, and military sf.

Joe Haldeman is a world-famous science fiction author who has won both the Hugo and Nebula awards on multiple occasions in different categories, and has also won the Campbell, Locus, World Fantasy, and Rhysling Awards. He is an inductee of the Science Fiction Hall of Fame and the 27th Grand Master of the Science Fiction Writers of America.

4:20 PM: Show Corner – Stephen Kelner on Leadership

Leadership expert Stephen Kelner will return to the show to explore leadership styles within science fiction and fantasy, this time in honor of Joe’s work.

4:30 PM: Hugo Award Finalists for Best Novel

The second in our Hugo Awards panels features the finalists for Best Novel, Alix E. Harrow, Seanan McGuire, Arkady Martine, and Kameron Hurley.

  • Alix E. Harrow is a Hugo award winning writer, with a masters degree in history.  Her first book, The Ten Thousand Doors of January, was critically received, with her second novel, The Once and Future Witches, due out this year.
  • Seanan McGuire is a Hugo award winning writer who was the first writer to be nominated five times in a single year.  She has won the Campbell, Nebula, and Locus awards and also writes under the pseudonym Mira Grant when writing Science Fiction and Horror.
  • Arkady Martine is a Nebula nominated writer of science fiction who also has a Batchelor of Arts in Religious Studies, an M.St in classical Armenian Studies, and a PH.D in Medieval Byzantine, Global and comparative history with many published writings on Byzantine and medieval Armenian History.

  1. When I read Joe Haldeman decades ago, I instantly recognized another veteran of Vietnam dealing with mind shear from that war. That is when I reali so Ed ,I was not insane. Thank you Joe.
